NPP Urges Centre to Reform FCRA Regulations for NGOs

Shillong: The National People’s Party has formally requested that the central government create a transparent and time-bound framework for the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act. During its Annual General Meeting in New Shillong Township, the party emphasized the need to balance national security with the essential services provided by civil society organizations in underserved regions, particularly across the Northeast.

Party leaders noted that a more predictable regulatory environment would ensure that groups working in health, education, and social welfare can continue their missions without interruption. This demand was among several resolutions passed by the party, which also focused on its broader vision for the region titled Northeast 2047: Gateway to Prosperity. The document outlines goals for enhancing democratic participation, protecting indigenous land rights, and fostering peace.

NPP National President and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma highlighted the party's commitment to prioritizing public service. Addressing the assembly, he said, "Every decision we take must be guided by whether it serves the people. That is the foundation of our party’s growth."

Looking ahead, the party plans to expand its presence across India by focusing on the development of youth and women leaders. Sangma also addressed the ongoing political situation in Manipur, noting that despite various hurdles, the party remains dedicated to grassroots engagement. He expressed confidence that the NPP can continue to promote stability and representation throughout the Northeast as the region increasingly functions as a hub for national economic growth.
