Aizawl: The North Eastern Council invested Rs 339.06 crore into various development projects across Mizoram during the 15th Finance Commission period covering 2022 to 2026. This funding, distributed through the Schemes of NEC and the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme, targeted healthcare, education, connectivity, tourism, and agricultural sectors.

Under the Schemes of NEC, the council directed Rs 123.83 crore toward community development, including medical and veterinary facilities, sports infrastructure, and cultural centers. Agricultural support focused on expanding local industries such as piggery, poultry, fisheries, and areca nut farming. Tourism also received attention through the development of eco-parks and cultural circuits aimed at promoting the state as a destination for travelers.

Road connectivity remains a primary priority, with six projects totaling Rs 277.99 crore initiated under the NESIDS-Roads program. Officials highlighted the importance of the Saiha-Lungbun-Tiangnuam-Haka road, which enhances access to the Myanmar border and strengthens India's Act East Policy. Two of these road projects have already been completed.

Beyond physical infrastructure, the council expanded youth outreach through the Ashtalakshmi Youth Exchange Programme and the NE-SPARKS initiative. These programs facilitated educational exchanges and student visits to the Indian Space Research Organisation to foster scientific curiosity.

In April, the NEC released further funding for ongoing work, including livestock support in the Sinlung Hills, a new veterinary resource center, and tourism projects in Champhai district. Additional allocations also supported critical road construction projects like the Pukzing-Silsury and Tualpui-Champhai routes.
