Aizawl: The North Eastern Council has committed ₹339.06 crore to advance Mizoram's growth between 2022 and 2026. This funding targets diverse sectors including healthcare, education, tourism, and agriculture to foster inclusive development across the state.
Under the Schemes of NEC, the council provided ₹123.83 crore for vital infrastructure. These funds support medical and veterinary facilities, educational institutions, and sports complexes. Agricultural development also remains a priority, with investments directed toward wet rice cultivation, piggery, poultry, and fruit processing initiatives.
Connectivity improvements serve as a cornerstone of this investment strategy. Through the NESIDS-Roads program, six projects worth ₹277.99 crore are underway, including the strategic Saiha-Lungbun-Tlangnuam-Haka Road. This specific route aims to strengthen ties with Myanmar as part of India's Act East Policy. Two road projects are already finished, and an additional ₹20.09 crore was recently disbursed for routes such as the Pukzing-Silsury and Tualpui-Champhai roads.
The council is also investing in Mizoram's cultural and natural heritage, funding eco-tourism sites and community centers. Ongoing projects include tourism development in Vangchhia and market infrastructure in West Phaileng. To foster innovation, the council launched outreach programs like NE-SPARKS, which enabled 99 local students to visit the Indian Space Research Organisation, and the Ashtalakshmi Youth Exchange Programme, which hosted students at Mizoram University.
