Kohima: The new Health and Wellness Centre in Chekiye officially opened on June 13, 2026. Dr. Keveduyi Theyo, Mission Director of the National Health Mission in Nagaland, led the inauguration ceremony before an audience of health officials, community leaders, and local residents.
During the event, Dr. Theyo explained that the facility reflects a broader shift in strategy from reactive treatment to preventive and promotive care. He stated, "The Centre represents a commitment to accessible and dignified healthcare." The facility will offer a range of services including maternal and child health programs, immunizations, and the screening of non-communicable diseases. It also provides specialized care for tuberculosis and malaria, alongside essential laboratory facilities and pharmacy services.
Beyond medical treatment, the center will integrate wellness programs such as yoga, dietary counseling, and mental health support. Dr. Theyo encouraged villagers to actively utilize these resources and take ownership of the facility.
The construction project relied on strong community support, with the Chekiye Village Baptist Akukuhou donating the land and residents contributing to the boundary fencing. Hukiye Yepthomi, vice chairman of the Chekiye Village Council, pledged the community's ongoing support for the maintenance of the new building. The ceremony concluded with representatives from the health departments of Dimapur and Chümoukedima in attendance.
