Shillong: North-Eastern Hill University recently concluded a two-week refresher course in Khasi, marking the program's return after a five-year hiatus. The training was organized by the Department of Khasi in collaboration with the UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre.
The course brought together educators from various institutions to explore contemporary literary trends, linguistics, folklore, and indigenous knowledge systems. Dr. MM Khymdeit, the course coordinator, explained that the sessions were designed to sharpen academic insights and professional capabilities among participating teachers.
During the valedictory function, chief guest Dr. Tiplut Nongbri, a former professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University, highlighted the need for academic rigor. She pointed out that many existing publications about the community contain errors stemming from a superficial grasp of local traditions. Dr. Nongbri emphasized the role of educators in addressing these gaps, stating, "It is the responsibility of teachers and researchers to correct these misconceptions and ensure authentic knowledge is disseminated."
Dr. Quendarisa Kharbuli, the Director In-Charge of the UGC-MMTTC, stressed the importance of these initiatives for maintaining high educational standards. She encouraged attendees to integrate their newfound knowledge into their classrooms to benefit their students. The program opened with a welcome address by Dr. Bandarilin Bairo and concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Trocylin Chyne.
