Kohima: The Nagaland Baptist Church Council and the Naga Council Dimapur have publicly condemned the abduction and killing of six Naga civilians in Manipur. The victims were taken from Leilon Vaiphei village in the Kangpokpi district on May 13. Their bodies were eventually discovered on June 10 near the border of the Kangpokpi and Imphal East districts.
The Nagaland Baptist Church Council described the incident as a direct assault on human dignity and the sanctity of life. The council stated that such violence contradicts core biblical teachings regarding peace and justice. They have called upon authorities to launch a transparent and impartial investigation to ensure the perpetrators are held accountable. In a firm message to those responsible, the council emphasized that the church cannot remain silent in the face of such injustice.
The Naga Council Dimapur also expressed deep anguish, noting that the victims from Konsaram village had suffered alleged mutilation. The council condemned the violence as a heinous act that transcends cultural or religious boundaries. The organization described the crime as "despicable" and "diabolical" while demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of all individuals involved.
Both organizations expressed concern over the persistent instability in Manipur, which has resulted in widespread displacement and the destruction of property. They appealed to political leaders and civil society groups to reject divisive rhetoric. The groups encouraged a return to dialogue and reconciliation to stop the ongoing cycle of fear and retaliation in the region.
