Shillong: The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment kicks off the Nasha Mukt Saptah campaign today as a core component of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. Running until June 26, the initiative aligns with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime theme, Break the Cycle #StopOrganisedCrime. This year, the national campaign is organized under the theme Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan–Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan.
Organizers are coordinating with state governments, district administrations, schools, and non-governmental organizations to promote substance abuse prevention. Planned activities include health camps, yoga sessions, street plays, and rallies. The initiative emphasizes healthy alternatives to drug use by highlighting sports, music, and arts, while providing resources for stress management and resisting peer pressure.
The ministry aims to engage women and youth throughout the week, fostering community-led wellness practices. The campaign will conclude with national events in New Delhi and local programs across all states and union territories on the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Citizens are invited to participate in the movement by taking an online pledge at the official government portal.
