Shillong: A five-day national workshop on environmental action and self-defense wrapped up in Shillong this Friday. Hosted by the Bharat Scouts and Guides, the event drew 70 attendees from across India to the Meghalaya State Headquarters. It started on September 1.
Organizers pushed for a shift from government mandates to personal duty. They want people to become what they call Pro-Planet People. The program highlighted seven core themes to encourage mindful resource use and sustainable daily habits. It aimed to arm participants with tools to combat plastic waste, water scarcity, and broader climate change.
S. Syiem, a senior engineer with the Meghalaya Pollution Control Board, served as the chief guest for the closing ceremony. He stood alongside EP Kharbih, vice-president of the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides. Syiem demanded real action from the crowd. He told the attendees, "Urgent action through Mission LiFE to protect and preserve the fragile environment" is required. He pushed the group to adopt eco-friendly habits to shrink their carbon footprints.
