Shillong: The State Planning Board launched an urgent series of meetings to tackle the deepening trash crisis in Shillong and across Meghalaya. Two sessions have already concluded. A third sits on the calendar for the coming weeks.
Waste management is only half the battle. The board is also drafting plans to clean up polluted rivers throughout the state. They are currently pulling in various stakeholders to build a strategy for environmental restoration and urban sanitation. Officials describe the initiative as a way to "formulate effective solutions for environmental restoration and urban cleanliness." The group intends to fix the filth.
