Guwahati: The 34th Zonal Karbi Youth Festival kicks off October 18 at Rengbeng Karbi village in Kathiatoli, Nagaon. This three-day gathering runs through October 20. It centers on protecting Karbi heritage for community members living outside the Karbi Anglong district. Traditions are fading elsewhere.

The organising committee promises a full slate of activities. Expect cultural shows, various competitions, and exhibitions covering traditional art, language, attire, cuisine, and local sports. The event provides a space to document and practice customs, ensuring they reach younger generations. Organisers want to keep these practices alive.

"The festival aims to preserve and popularise Karbi cultural practices among younger generations, particularly in areas outside Karbi Anglong, where organisers say several traditional practices face the risk of gradual decline."

The committee issued a public call for support. They want members of the Karbi community and the wider public to attend the festival. Everyone is welcome to witness the efforts to keep this cultural identity strong.
