Assam Official Accused of Stealing Self-Help Group Funds

Guwahati: A Community Resource Person faces accusations of stealing government funds intended for local women. Jasmina Khatun allegedly swiped checks issued through the Women Entrepreneurship Scheme in Rampur Pam village. The theft hit two distinct self-help groups hard. Police records show the trouble started in Assam’s Nagaon district.

Khatun stands accused of pocketing a check meant for a woman in the Asha group. That unit had eleven women expecting support. She allegedly diverted that money for her own use. Investigators at the Batadrava Police Station received the formal complaint regarding these financial irregularities. The situation remains tense.

The suspect reportedly targeted a deceased member of the Ronak group as well. She allegedly withdrew and kept a check issued in the name of that dead woman. Members of both self-help groups finally marched to the police to demand accountability. They want action taken against the accused resource person immediately.

The Assam government designed these schemes to spark economic growth for women. State officials want to push entrepreneurship through direct financial aid. These specific allegations against Khatun have yet to be proven in court. Authorities say the “allegations against Khatun are yet to be established.” The investigation is ongoing.
