Kohima: The Nagaland Legislative Assembly is heading to Dimapur on July 31. A special committee will meet with municipal councillors, colony chairmen, and local gaon buras to discuss urban and village council laws. K Tokugha Sukhalu chairs the group, which is reviewing the 2023 Municipal Act and the 1978 Village and Tribal Councils Act.
Mokokchung faces traffic headaches. Deputy Commissioner Thsuvisie Phoji issued a travel advisory after National Highway-2 collapsed between Chuchuyimlang and Unger. Drivers must use long, winding detours through Impur Junction and nearby villages until further notice. Follow the signs.
Political tensions stirred on Monday. The NSCN-K (Niki) announced that David Gangmei, a former ZUF (J) secretary, has joined their ranks. Gangmei claims his old group lacks direction. He said he left because the organization "has no vision for the Nagas as a whole."
Meanwhile, the Hub for Empowerment of Women in Kohima is distancing itself from a group seeking pending honorariums for Mission Shakti staff. They claim someone used their name without permission. They are waiting on the Ministry of Women and Child Development for the 2025-26 funds, but 2026-27 payments have already started. In other administrative news, the Home Department called a meeting for all AHoDs and HoDs at the Kohima Secretariat for 3 pm on July 29.
Kohima’s business sector is also reorganizing. Following a July 24 meeting, the Kohima Traders Association is now the Traders Grievances Cell. It will operate under the Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industries to better protect business owners and coordinate with local youth groups.
