Kohima: The State Election Commission of Nagaland has officially acknowledged the merger of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) into the Naga People’s Front (NPF). This action follows the formal directive issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on May 4, 2026, which recognized the consolidation of the two parties based on a resolution passed during their meeting on October 18, 2025. Consequently, the NDPP has ceased to function as an independent political entity.

In light of this development, the Commission has updated the records for the 2024 Municipal and Town Council elections. According to the original notification published in the Nagaland Gazette on July 1, 2024, several candidates were declared winners under the NDPP banner. Exercising its authority under the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023, the State Election Commission has mandated that all references to the NDPP in those official election results be amended to the NPF.

This administrative transition ensures that the electoral records accurately reflect the current political landscape in the state's municipalities. The official amendments will be effective for all practical purposes immediately upon their publication in the Nagaland Gazette.
