Imphal: Suspected militants gunned down a 53-year-old tribal farmer in Manipur on Saturday afternoon. Haolal Singsit died on the spot in his paddy field near Govajang village. His wife, Nemneikim Singsit, managed to run for her life during the ambush.

The couple worked their land when armed men appeared. Nearby residents heard roughly 20 gunshots around 4 pm. Panic set in. When the pair failed to return by nightfall, villagers scoured the area and discovered the body.

Govajang sits as the final Kuki village in the Twilang region, roughly 10 kilometers from the local headquarters. Locals expressed frustration over the security situation following a recent military sweep. "They questioned the effectiveness of such operations in preventing attacks by armed groups."

Police moved the remains to Kangpokpi District Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Detectives registered a case to hunt down the killers. No militant outfit has stepped up to claim the hit yet.
