MLA Demands Probe After Fatal Nagaland Bus Crash

Kohima: MLA A. Nyamnyei Konyak is calling for a formal investigation after a Nagaland State Transport bus crash left one dead and several people critically hurt. The accident occurred on July 9 near Ukha Changkhong Village. Witnesses claim the driver was high on illegal substances during the wreck.

Nyamnyei labeled the driver's conduct unacceptable. The lawmaker insists on swift legal action against everyone involved in the breakdown of oversight. He stated the negligence was "unacceptable" and demanded the state hold those responsible accountable.

The Tobu Area Students’ Union warned the department about this driver back in May 2025. They flagged his substance use and a previous crash, but officials sat on the report. Nothing changed. Now, a life is lost.

Nyamnyei wants a transparent, time-bound inquiry into the disaster. He also demanded the state pay ex gratia to the victim's family and cover medical bills for the wounded passengers. The bus route remains a vital link for the Moka and Tobu constituencies, but service is currently halted. The MLA urged the government to fix the line and add safety measures before putting vehicles back on the road.
