Kohima: Kigwema Village Council Hall hosted a reception for newly elected Naga National Council vice president Zapu o Zhasa this past Saturday. Zhasa thanked the NNC leadership for their trust. He pledged to work hard to advance the group's goals.
Zhasa recalled his early days in the movement. He was inspired by the late Neilhounyü Yhokha of Kigwema. The leader noted that A.Z. Phizo’s time in the village left a lasting mark on his life. He credited his election to the honesty and courage of his home village. He promised to follow the collective vision of the Naga people.
NNC executive member Zapuvisie Lhousa reminded the crowd why the movement exists. He said, "The Naga national movement was born out of the desire to safeguard identity, dignity and the right to determine the future." Lhousa warned that supporters must keep their commitment to history despite differing opinions.
Speakers at the event urged the community to stay united. Vikhwe Kiso told the audience to uphold the truth passed down by their forefathers. Regional leaders Zhale Nakhro and Sato Gwirie also addressed the crowd. Local officials managed the ceremony, which featured prayers and musical performances.
