Kohima: Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation leaders gathered at Aongza Ki on Saturday to push for better safety standards for women and kids. The event brought together groups like SANKALP, the District Child Protection Unit, and Sakhi One Stop Centre. They want an end to violence.
ENWO president Yingphe Konyak opened the session by demanding a joint effort from the public. She urged participants to work together to build a society free from violence, discrimination and exploitation. The meeting tackled harsh realities like child marriage and forced labor.
Technical experts mapped out the legal tools available to protect families. Staff from the Sakhi One Stop Centre detailed how to handle gender-based abuse. Meanwhile, DCPU supervisor Imnatula outlined the risks of child labor and explained how the 1098 Child Helpline works to save kids in danger. She reminded the crowd that child protection is a basic right backed by laws like the POCSO and Juvenile Justice Acts.
The afternoon ended with a question-and-answer session. Locals grilled the organizers on specific protections and reporting procedures. Esther Sangtam wrapped up the day with a final vote of thanks.
