Kohima: Members of the Nagaland Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan 2016 Teachers Association are calling on the state government to finally implement a court-mandated pay scale. During a press conference at the Kohima Press Club on June 15, the group expressed frustration over a four-year delay in executing a judgment that was upheld by the Supreme Court.

Spokesperson Renbemo L. Patton noted that teachers have been left without salaries for the past two months. The association won its legal battle on March 16, 2022, and the Supreme Court subsequently dismissed a Special Leave Petition in May 2025 followed by a review petition in January 2026. Despite these rulings and advice from the Advocate General that all legal remedies were exhausted, the government has yet to comply.

Executive member Akabo S. Aye clarified that the ruling entitles teachers to a pay band of Rs. 9,300 to 34,800 with a monthly grade pay of Rs. 4,200. Although the Finance and P&AR departments have expressed concurrence, the Cabinet has not finalized the implementation. Patton stated, "The Cabinet was attempting to find loopholes in a judgment already passed by the Supreme Court."

The teachers previously suspended a protest last year based on a government assurance letter dated September 11, 2025. With examinations scheduled for June 24, association leaders are urging the government to resolve the issue immediately to avoid further disruption to the academic calendar.
