Kohima: Nagaland officials are juggling a dual crisis. Severe weather looms over the state as the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral roll nears its final stretch. The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rain from August 30 to September 2. Residents must prepare for the worst. The Home Department issued a high alert for Dimapur and Mokokchung on August 30, citing potential lightning and moderate to heavy rainfall.
Rain will spread across the state. Longleng, Mon, and Tseminyu face similar risks while Kiphire, Kohima, and others expect light rain. By August 31, heavy downpours will likely hit Meluri, Niuland, and Wokha. The weather pattern shifts again on September 1, with heavy rain forecast for seven districts, including Chümoukedima and Kiphire. By September 2, the thunderstorm risk migrates to eight districts, including Wokha and Zunheboto. Officials told drivers to exercise caution on landslide-prone stretches.
Meanwhile, the electoral roll revision is moving fast. As of 4 pm on August 29, authorities distributed nearly 95% of Enumeration Forms across Nagaland. The Chief Electoral Officer reported that 12,88,134 forms reached citizens out of a total electorate of 13,57,208. Digitisation is lagging behind distribution at 36.2%. The process shows stark local variations. Longleng leads distribution at 99.97% while Meluri holds the highest digitisation rate at 52.82%.
Booth Level Officers continue their house-to-house work through September 14. They must also finish the rationalisation of polling stations. The state plans to publish the draft electoral roll on September 20. A long period for claims and objections runs until November 18. The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, stated, "A total of 799 EFs have been submitted online by electors." Final rolls arrive on November 22, 2026. Authorities urge citizens to track weather alerts using the Safer Nagaland app.
