Nagaland Prepares for Four Days of Thunderstorms and Rain

Kohima: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued an advisory warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and rainfall across the state between June 16 and June 19. Residents in various districts should prepare for localized weather shifts as the authority monitors the situation.

On June 16, thunderstorms are expected in Dimapur, Kohima, Phek, Zunheboto, Kiphire, and Peren. The following day, the activity will shift toward Kohima, Wokha, Zunheboto, Mokokchung, and Mon. By June 18, the forecast highlights Kohima, Wokha, and Mon, concluding on June 19 with predicted storms in Dimapur, Kohima, and Peren. The NSDMA noted that heavy rainfall could impact isolated locations in the Peren district on the final day of the forecast.

Officials are urging residents in vulnerable and low-lying areas to remain cautious due to the risk of waterlogging and potential landslides. The authority provided specific safety guidance, noting, "The public has been advised not to take shelter under trees during thunderstorms, to stay away from water bodies during lightning activity, and to keep updated through official weather advisories."

While the state does not anticipate widespread extreme weather, the NSDMA maintains that localized conditions could pose risks to commuters. Citizens are encouraged to monitor real-time updates via the NSDMA Weather website and the SAFER Nagaland App.
