Nagaland Prepares for Four Days of Rain and Storms

Kohima: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather warning for the state, forecasting light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning between June 16 and June 19, 2026. These conditions are expected to impact various districts throughout the four-day period.

On June 16, thunderstorms are likely in Dimapur, Kohima, Phek, Zunheboto, Kiphire, and Peren. The following day, the focus shifts to Kohima, Wokha, Zunheboto, Mokokchung, and Mon. By June 18, intermittent rain will continue, with stormy conditions expected in Kohima, Wokha, and Mon. The final day of the forecast, June 19, indicates potential thunderstorms in Dimapur, Kohima, and Peren.

The authority highlighted a specific concern for Peren district, where isolated heavy rainfall could trigger localized waterlogging and landslides. While experts do not anticipate a widespread extreme weather event, officials warned that the forecast carries risks for residents and commuters. The NSDMA advised the public to take precautions during the period, noting: "The authority advised the public not to take shelter under trees during thunderstorms, avoid water bodies during lightning activity and remain updated through official weather advisories."

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates regularly. Real-time information is available through the official NSDMA website and the SAFER Nagaland mobile application.
