Kohima: Nagaland officially opened its first Aadhaar Seva Kendra in Dimapur this week. Located at Purana Bazaar near the Labour Office, the facility aims to bridge the gap in state enrolment rates. The centre now processes up to 250 enrolment and update requests every day.
Advisor for Tribal Affairs and Election H. Tovihoto Ayemi inaugurated the site. He urged residents to utilize the new space for hassle-free government documentation. Currently, Nagaland lags behind the national average with only 67 percent enrolment. Nearly one-third of the population remains outside the system.
Ngachan Zimik of the UIDAI Regional Office highlighted the importance of keeping records current. He noted that children require biometric updates at age five and age 15 to keep their accounts active. "Timely biometric updates are essential to avoid suspension of Aadhaar and to ensure uninterrupted access to services that require Aadhaar authentication," Zimik said.
The centre operates seven days a week, excluding public holidays. Officials confirmed that mandatory biometric updates for children will remain free of charge until September 30. Residents can book appointments online or visit the office to update names, addresses, or biometric data.
