Kohima: A Special Lok Adalat across Nagaland settled five cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act this past Saturday. The initiative moved Rs 58,58,800 back into legal resolution. The District Legal Services Authorities organized the event under the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority. This followed a direct order from the National Legal Services Authority.
Authorities reviewed 22 pending cases total. Five reached an amicable settlement. The remaining 17 cases went back to regular courts. Kiphire DLSA saw the best results. It disposed of all three of its cases for Rs 51,08,800 through an e-Lok Adalat. Dimapur DLSA settled one of its seven cases for Rs 4,00,000. Peren DLSA handled its single case for Rs 3,50,000.
Other districts struggled to find common ground. Kohima DLSA reported that "none of the eight cases taken up could be settled" and pushed them back to the standard court system. The single cases taken up by the Mokokchung and Zunheboto DLSAs also failed to resolve and remain pending.
