Nagaland Launches Statewide HIV Awareness Drive

Kohima: Nagaland is taking the fight against HIV to the streets. The Nagaland State AIDS Control Society launches its third intensified awareness drive tomorrow, August 12. State Health and Family Welfare Minister P. Paiwang Konyak will kick off the two-month push at the Agri Expo in Chümoukedima. The initiative runs under the National AIDS Control Organisation to boost prevention and early testing.

This campaign covers the entire state. Teams will hit 287 villages and hold 540 school sessions. Workers plan to conduct 5,500 door-to-door visits and 64 college awareness programs. Officials are also scheduling 110 folk performances, 50 urban flash mobs, and 17 special health camps. They will deploy 40 social media influencers to reach younger residents online.

Hard-to-reach areas remain a priority. The state is adding five new motorbikes to its Health on Bike fleet, serving Niuland, Tseminyu, Tuensang, Mokokchung, and Mon. This brings the total fleet to 13 bikes. These vehicles bypass rough terrain to deliver testing and care directly to isolated communities.

The program emphasizes moving from awareness to action. "The campaign, which will run across the state for the next two months, is built on a three-pronged call to action: moving from awareness to action, from mobilisation to results, and from stigma to solidarity."

Minister Konyak will also start a bike rally with 25 riders spreading prevention messages. Nine other districts will host similar rallies simultaneously. The operation aims to meet national 95:95:99 targets while using digital tools like the HIV Self-Risk Assessment Tool to link people with necessary services.
