Kohima: Nagaland has officially launched the Census 2027 drive, with state leadership calling for widespread public participation to ensure the accuracy of the nationwide exercise. Governor Nand Kishore Yadav inaugurated the campaign, themed My Census, My Development, at Lok Bhavan in Kohima by completing his own household registration through the new digital portal.
For the first time, the government has introduced a self-enumeration phase, allowing residents to register their households online from June 16 to June 30. This digital shift is intended to make the data collection process more transparent, inclusive, and efficient. Following this window, field officials will conduct verification visits from July 1 to July 30 to finalize the House Listing Operation.
Governor Yadav emphasized that this data serves as the bedrock for long-term governance and policy planning in sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure. During the launch, he stated, "As India advances towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, Census 2027 will provide vital data for development and planning."
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio took to social media to echo these sentiments, encouraging citizens to register and motivate others to participate. Both leaders highlighted the importance of the exercise, noting that accurate information is essential for delivering public services effectively to all sections of society.
The state has deployed more than 6,100 census officials to carry out the operation. Governor Yadav urged these personnel to work with dedication and called upon community leaders, tribal bodies, and village councils to support the initiative. The second phase of the census, focused on population enumeration, is slated for February 2027.
