Nagaland Improves School Education Performance in Latest National Index

Kohima: Nagaland has climbed one grade in the latest Ministry of Education Performance Grading Index, moving from Akanshi-2 to the Akanshi-1 category. The state saw its overall score rise from 468.6 to 536.6 during the 2024-25 assessment period, marking a total improvement of 68 points.

The index evaluates educational performance across six domains, including learning outcomes, access, and infrastructure. Among these, Equity proved to be the state's strongest area, while Learning Outcomes remained the lowest. The report noted that while Nagaland has seen progress, "Learning Outcomes remained the State's weakest-performing domain, mirroring a broader national challenge highlighted in the report."

Disparities persist within the state at the district level. Mokokchung ranked as the highest-performing district with 318 points, followed by Kohima and Dimapur. Meanwhile, Kiphire recorded the lowest score in the state. Despite these local gaps, Nagaland’s advancement placed it among 15 states and union territories in the Akanshi-1 band, while no region in the country achieved the top four grade categories.
