Kohima: The Directorate of Science and Technology in Nagaland recently hosted the state’s first drone workshop aligned with the National Education Policy 2020. Held at the Village Council Hall in Kidima on June 12 and 13, the two-day event brought together 120 students from 16 government and private schools in the Southern Area of Kohima district.
The program sought to bridge the digital divide by teaching students how to move from technology consumers to active creators. Organized in partnership with the Southern Angami Students' Union, the initiative emphasized skill-based STEM education through practical application.
Extra Assistant Commissioner Zerütso Kesiezie inaugurated the event and urged attendees to seize these opportunities to develop their innovative thinking. Er Onongoto Soleho, chief mentor at the Innovation Hub, noted the importance of integrating such training into the curriculum, stating the initiative "seeks to reduce the regional digital divide, transform students from technology consumers into creators, and advance the experiential learning and vocational education goals envisioned under the NEP."
Technical mentors guided the participants through a rigorous schedule that included identifying drone components, assembling chassis, and completing complex circuitry. The workshop concluded with live test flights and an inter-school flight competition, providing students with direct experience in emerging technologies.
