Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav met with officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway on Monday at Lok Bhavan to assess the progress of the Dhansiri-Zubza railway line and the redevelopment of the Dimapur railway station. The 78.42-km rail project, which aims to connect Kohima district for the first time, is currently under construction through Karbi Anglong in Assam and the Chümoukedima and Kohima districts of Nagaland.
Railway officials confirmed that the Dhansiri-Shokhuvi and Shokhuvi-Molvom sections are already operational. Work on the remaining segments continues despite significant obstacles, including poor rock quality, landslide-prone terrain, and heavy monsoon rains. Engineers also reported complications with high-pressure groundwater and fault zones during tunnel excavations. These projects are expected to improve regional mobility, boost tourism, and provide a major stimulus to the socio-economic development of the Northeast.
The redevelopment of Dimapur railway station is also underway with a targeted completion date of July 2028. The plan includes new office complexes, residential quarters, and updated passenger amenities. To maintain progress, railway officials requested state assistance with land mutation, approach road development, and the removal of encroachments impacting construction sites.
Governor Yadav reiterated the state government's commitment to the project, noting that enhanced infrastructure is vital for the region. He said, "Enhanced railway connectivity would play a transformative role in accelerating economic growth, improving public mobility and strengthening regional integration across Nagaland."
