Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav met with officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway on Monday to evaluate the status of the Dhansiri-Zubza railway line and the redevelopment of Dimapur railway station. During the session at the Raj Bhavan in Kohima, the Governor emphasized that the state government remains committed to supporting these strategic infrastructure efforts to boost the regional economy and public mobility.
The 78.42 km railway project intends to bring rail connectivity to the Kohima district for the first time, crossing through Assam as well as Nagaland's Chümoukedima and Kohima districts. While the Dhansiri-Shokhuvi and Shokhuvi-Molvom sections are already in operation, teams continue to labor on the remaining stretches through difficult terrain.
Railway representatives outlined several obstacles complicating construction, including heavy monsoon rainfall, unstable geological conditions, and issues with rock quality. The project faces specific technical hurdles during tunnel excavation, such as high-pressure groundwater ingress and fault zones. Project managers reported that the "enhanced railway connectivity would play a transformative role in accelerating economic growth, improving public mobility, and strengthening regional integration across Nagaland."
Beyond terrain challenges, the Northeast Frontier Railway requested state assistance with several administrative and logistical issues. These include securing approach roads for new stations, finalizing the mutation of acquired land, and managing encroached areas. Officials also noted that riverbed mining near major bridges remains a concern for project stability.
