Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav highlighted regional cooperation and infrastructure development while addressing the 73rd North Eastern Council Plenary Session in Shillong on June 4, 2026. He stated that collaborative efforts across states are essential to achieving the national vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Focusing on the state economy, Yadav identified agriculture as the primary sector for over 70 percent of the population. He called for improved market access and certification for organic goods like coffee, Naga King Chilli, and pineapple. To boost industrial and agricultural output, he urged for the expansion of transportation networks, including the proposed Ciethu airport, airstrips in Mokokchung, Tuensang, and Mon, and the development of the Foothill Road.
Education and youth development remain top priorities for the state. Yadav expressed a need for more national-level learning institutions and highlighted local success stories such as the state's first Drone School. He noted that districts like Kohima, Dimapur, and Mokokchung are already showing strong progress in the North Eastern Region District SDG Index.
Sustainability and tourism are also central to the state's strategy. Yadav promoted the Nagaland Solar Mission and advocated for eco-sensitive infrastructure to bolster tourism through events like the Hornbill Festival. He concluded by reiterating the state's core commitment, saying, "Peace for Development and Development for Peace."
