Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav has appealed to the youth, educational institutions, and civil society to establish a consistent culture of voluntary blood donation. Speaking at the World Blood Donor Day 2026 event held at the Capital Convention Centre in Kohima on June 12, the Governor emphasized that these acts of service are vital for maintaining a reliable medical supply.

During his address, the Governor highlighted the urgency of the global theme, "One Drop of Humanity: Give Blood, Save Lives." He noted that voluntary, unpaid donors serve as the essential backbone of a healthcare system that must move away from a reliance on emergency collections. To underscore his commitment, Yadav shared that he has donated blood 36 times throughout his life and has also pledged to donate his eyes.

The event, organized by the Kohima District Planning and Development Board in partnership with the Voluntary Blood Donors Association Nagaland, recognized the contributions of various supporters. Kohima DPDB Chairman and MLA Kevipodi Sophie remarked that blood donation transcends social and tribal lines, noting that it remains a critical moral responsibility because blood cannot be manufactured or replaced by laboratory substitutes.

State health officials and association leaders echoed these sentiments, stressing that regular donations are the only way to ensure the availability of safe blood products. The program concluded with the formal recognition of several organizational partners and patrons, followed by a voluntary blood donation drive to mark the occasion.
