Kohima: The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) launched a four-day workshop on Tuesday at its Kohima headquarters to train teachers on the PARAKH taxonomy and competency-based assessment. The program, developed in collaboration with PARAKH-NCERT, Delhi, aims to help educators build question banks that align with the National Education Policy 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework 2023.
NBSE secretary Rangumbuing Nsarangbe opened the event by emphasizing the transition toward new assessment models. He noted that the workshop focuses on the PARAKH taxonomy guidelines, which are designed to create more balanced and effective exam papers.
Prof. Indrani Bhaduri, CEO and head of PARAKH, addressed the 73 participating teachers virtually. She explained that this framework moves students away from rote memorization toward higher-order skills like analysis, evaluation, and creative thinking. By mapping specific competencies to cognitive levels, the system connects directly with the Holistic Progress Card to provide a more comprehensive view of student growth.
The training session, which runs through June 5, is part of a two-year partnership between the NBSE and national curriculum experts. The inaugural event was moderated by assistant academic officer Siduniu Rentta and included an invocation by academic officer Dziesevolie Tsürho.
