Nagaland Deputy CM Promises Investigation into Assam Border Allegations

Kohima: Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton has promised a thorough investigation into claims that Assam Police are erecting temporary structures within the disputed border region. Speaking on the sidelines of a campaign event in Wokha, Patton clarified that the state government has not received official notice regarding these activities, but he intends to take immediate action.

Patton stated, "Our state government is not informed, but if that is the case, I will deploy my police force for spot verification." His comments follow a June 12 meeting where the Lotha Students Union and various local organizations raised concerns about border security in the Ralan and Disputed Area Belt.

The Deputy Chief Minister also addressed the recent tripartite agreement between the central government, Nagaland, and Assam. This deal mandates an equal split of oil and gas resources along the border. Patton expressed optimism that this economic cooperation will help settle the persistent boundary disputes between the two states. He further confirmed that local communities will be consulted throughout the implementation process of the agreement.
