Kohima: Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton expressed deep concern on Friday regarding the recent killing of six Naga civilians in the neighboring state of Manipur. Speaking to reporters in Kohima, Patton described the act as very unfortunate and called on all involved communities to prioritize peace and harmony.
Patton noted that the violence was unexpected, especially when compared to previous incidents where Naga groups released 14 kidnapped Kuki civilians unharmed. He expressed confusion over the motives behind the latest incident, questioning why suspected Kuki militants had, in his words, “massacred, killed and assassinated” the six Naga men.
Amid the ongoing ethnic volatility in the region, Patton urged Kuki militants, Nagas, and Meiteis to practice restraint. He emphasized that maintaining order is essential to prevent further escalation of violence between the groups.
