Nagaland Commissioner Reviews Polling Accessibility for Voters with Disabilities

Kohima: Nagaland State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Tongpang L Jamir, conducted an inspection of the Ward-11 polling station in Chümoukedima this week to evaluate accessibility for voters with disabilities. Accompanied by program coordinator Ashe Kiba, the commissioner inspected essential facilities, including access ramps and wheelchairs, designed to provide a barrier-free environment for the electorate.

During the visit, Jamir met with Returning Officer T Lemlila Sangtam to discuss the specific arrangements managed by local election authorities. Officials confirmed that two registered voters with disabilities were assigned to this station, with one having successfully cast a ballot earlier in the day. The staff ensured that all seniors and voters with disabilities received priority assistance throughout the process.

Reflecting on the progress, Jamir expressed satisfaction with the infrastructure and the support provided to voters. He emphasized the importance of the ongoing effort, stating, "all eligible voters, including those with disabilities, to exercise their franchise with dignity, independence and ease." This visit aligns with a broader state initiative aimed at fostering inclusive electoral practices across all districts in Nagaland.
