Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has formally requested the intervention of the central government to ensure the safe release of six individuals reportedly abducted in Manipur. In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Rio emphasized the gravity of the situation, describing the incident as a major humanitarian concern that requires an immediate, coordinated response.

During their discussions on May 29, Shah assured the Chief Minister that the rescue efforts remain a top priority. Federal agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau and officials from the Union Home Ministry, are actively working with state authorities to locate the missing persons and bring those responsible to justice.

To de-escalate regional tensions, Rio also held consultations with the United Naga Council, including its president Ng Lorho. He urged the council to facilitate the unconditional release of 14 Kuki individuals currently held by Naga volunteers. The Chief Minister stressed that resolving the crisis requires compassion, open dialogue, and cooperation between civil society, church organizations, and community leaders.

Rio called for all stakeholders to exercise restraint and assist law enforcement to prevent further violence. His appeal aligns with calls from various religious and community groups to release all innocent civilians held by any party, as the region seeks a peaceful path toward reconciliation.
