Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio handed out 35 tractors and six Tata Mobile vehicles on Saturday. He led the program at the Agri Expo in Chümoukedima. The gear comes from the Chief Minister’s Corpus Fund. This effort aims to help farmers embrace mechanization to boost production.
Agriculture acts as the state's backbone. Nearly 70 percent of Nagaland's population works the land. Rio urged the crowd to pick up new tools and modern skills. He expects them to stop relying on old ways and start building a better future.
The government intends for these assets to stay in the field. Rio told the crowd, "Do not sell the tractors or other equipment but to utilise them effectively to increase agricultural production and income." He also pushed for more organic farming and value addition.
These handouts sit alongside equipment already flowing through state departments. Rio warned that state growth rests on the sweat of individual entrepreneurs. He wants the region to become self-reliant. Every worker must contribute to a developed India.
