Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is calling for an immediate investigation after six Naga men were discovered dead in Manipur's Kangpokpi district. The victims, who were allegedly held captive by armed groups, were found by local police on Wednesday.
Rio expressed deep distress over the incident, noting that it occurred despite extensive attempts by civil society groups and church leaders to negotiate a peaceful release. He pointed to a recent success where 14 hostages were released unharmed, a result he attributed to the Naga community's dedication to humanitarian principles.
The Chief Minister condemned the killings as "horrific and inhuman" while urging the state and central governments to ensure a transparent, fair inquiry. He emphasized that establishing accountability is the only way to restore public trust in the region.
Addressing the broader impact of the violence, Rio called for restraint and calm across Nagaland, Manipur, and surrounding areas. He urged citizens to avoid retaliatory violence and continue prioritizing human dignity during this volatile period. The Chief Minister also extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and vowed to stand in solidarity with those affected by the loss.
