Kohima: The Nagaland unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party held a press conference in Kohima on Friday to celebrate 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton noted that this milestone marks a historic achievement, as Modi has become the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in India with an uninterrupted tenure of 4,399 days, surpassing the record held by Jawaharlal Nehru.
Patton detailed the government's accomplishments, citing the empowerment of youth, women, and farmers under a policy of Nation First. He noted that nearly 250 million people have escaped multidimensional poverty, while India has established itself as the world's fastest-growing major economy. Key welfare statistics shared included 81 crore people receiving monthly food grains, the construction of over four crore houses, and tap water access provided to more than 10.5 crore rural households.
Highlighting the impact on women's financial inclusion, Patton stated that 32 crore Jan Dhan accounts were opened and nearly 10 crore toilets were constructed. He also praised the healthcare sector, which now covers over 70 crore people under insurance schemes, and the infrastructure growth that has seen the number of operational airports increase from 74 to 164.
Higher Education and Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along also addressed the media, reflecting on the governance philosophy of the past decade. He stated, "The Prime Minister’s 12 years in office has been a transformative era that has brought a resurgence in national consciousness." Along credited initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana for integrating families into the banking system and emphasized the modernization of India's railway and digital networks.
Both leaders expressed confidence that the administration will continue to work toward the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. They concluded by affirming that the country has become more self-reliant and prepared to maintain its position of influence on the global stage.
