Kohima: The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) confirmed the death of Niketu Iralu this week. They remember him as a vital voice for peace, reconciliation, and moral leadership in Nagaland. Iralu championed the group's early work against drug and alcohol abuse during the 1990s. He pushed to connect the association with the Mumbai-based KRIPA Foundation. This partnership led to the NMA-KRIPA De-addiction Centre in Kohima. He died. The legacy remains.
Iralu took the role of the first Visiting Director and Counsellor at the Mount Gilead Home in Sechu, Zubza. He collaborated with the NMA on social change. He focused on a generation caught in the grip of HIV/AIDS, alcoholism, and drug addiction. NMA leaders credit his guidance as a mentor and friend over many years. They noted his rare gender sensitivity in a society marred by violence against women. He left his mark.
The association highlighted his holistic view of stability in the region. "For him peace meant restoring lives and healing families, not just ending conflict," the NMA stated in their condolence message. The group remembers him as a beloved brother and uncle who served as a steady guide for successive generations of women leaders.
