Kohima: A massive landslide buried homes below the Assam Rifles camp in Mon town at 6:30 a.m. Sunday. Eight people are officially dead. Four bodies were recovered, but four others remain trapped under the mud. Search and rescue operations are ongoing. Emergency teams face brutal conditions. Fast-moving water and fresh mudslides continue to plague the site.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio promised financial aid. Families of the deceased will receive 4 lakh rupees. Injured victims get 74,000 rupees. The state government is also providing food and shelter to the displaced. Rio stated, "Deeply distressing reports of heavy landslides in Mon. My heartfelt condolences to those who've lost loved ones. The State Govt. is closely monitoring the situation. NSDMA, Dist. Admin, DDMA, SDRF, Police, AR & local community are working on ground for search & rescue operations."
Disaster has hit the entire state. Mon is effectively cut off. Roads are blocked. Power and water lines are down. The Konyak Union reports 150 households displaced and four more people missing after flash floods in Naganimora. Residents in Tuli, Mokokchung, face severe flooding. The Milak River surged, forcing residents into emergency shelters at two local schools.
Landslides have shredded road connectivity in Shamator. The Shamator to Tuensang highway is hit. The Shamator NAP Ward to Kiphire road is completely cut off. Wokha district is also struggling. Mudslides ruined the Doyang-Merapani road. A home in Lakhuti village was smashed by debris. Etsuchukha Colony residents were forced to evacuate.
The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority has ordered all districts to high alert. Officials urge the public to avoid hillsides and riverbanks. Emergency control rooms are open. Citizens can reach the State Emergency Operation Centre at 1070 or call 112 for help. Authorities demand people stop spreading unverified rumors during the crisis.
