Kohima: Law and Justice Advisor T.N. Mannen met with local stakeholders in Mokokchung on June 11 to review the status of the 23 Impur Piggery Community Project. During the session, the legislator urged the community to transform the Asetkong region into a central hub for piggery farming within the district.
Mannen called on relevant departments to provide consistent veterinary support and training to help local farmers sustain the industry. He stated, "I express hope that future leaders and stakeholders would continue to strengthen the initiative, enabling Asetkong farmers to meet the district’s growing demand for piggery products."
Technical experts offered guidance during the meeting to support the project's long-term success. Dr. Simon, a retired official from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, covered essential topics such as disease management and feed requirements. Meanwhile, District Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Tiachuba emphasized the necessity of livestock insurance and official animal registration. Additional technical assistance and demonstration programs were outlined by Dr. Sarandi of the KVK.
The project, which launched in May 2016, spans nine villages across the 23 Impur Assembly Constituency. Piggery Convenor Aongsen Aier confirmed that the initiative has supported 106 beneficiaries to date by supplying them with piglets, feeders, and necessary farming equipment.
