Mokokchung District Sports Council Leads Cleanliness Drive at Public Ground

Kohima: The Mokokchung District Sports Council (MDSC) mobilized approximately 100 volunteers on June 13 to conduct a mass social work project at the Public Ground and the nearby Multi Sports Complex. Representatives from the council’s 12 affiliated sports associations cleared overgrown vegetation and collected debris during the early morning effort.

Participants carefully segregated waste into plastic, glass, and general refuse. The Mokokchung Municipal Council supported the initiative by deploying two trucks to haul away the collected garbage. This event serves as the first step in a larger plan to improve and beautify the surroundings of the area.

During a post-cleanup meeting, members voiced frustration regarding persistent littering, specifically noting the presence of discarded alcohol bottles. The council emphasized that the site serves as the primary sports facility for the region and should be prioritized for athletic use rather than social gatherings.

The MDSC reiterated that existing district administration orders regarding gate operating hours remain in effect to prevent non-sporting activities after dark. The council called on the community to take better care of the space, stating that the "social work marked the beginning of a broader initiative and that further efforts would be undertaken to improve and beautify the surroundings of the Public Ground."
