Aizawl: Three major transport unions in Mizoram have united to oppose a government mandate requiring drivers to register on the newly launched MizoTaxi mobile application. The Mizoram Taxi Association, the Aizawl Two Wheeler Taxi Association, and the Aizawl District Auto-Rickshaw Owners Association released a joint statement on June 1 challenging the policy.

The government recently introduced the MizoTaxi platform to ensure passengers are charged standard fares and to prevent overcharging. Under a directive issued May 29 by the Secretary of the State Transport Authority, all taxis, two-wheeler taxis, and auto-rickshaws operating in Aizawl must complete their digital registration throughout June. The system is scheduled to go live on July 1.

Following a meeting on May 30, the transport associations urged all members to refrain from downloading or signing up for the application until further notice. The groups have formally requested that authorities withdraw the mandatory registration requirement. This collective pushback creates a potential standoff between local operators and the state as the July 1 launch date approaches.
