Aizawl: The Mizo Zirlai Pawl student organization has accused Chief Minister Lalduhoma of misleading them regarding the re-employment of R Lalrodingi. Lalrodingi, a retired official from the Commerce and Industries department, was appointed as both the Director of Tourism and an Officer on Special Duty to the Chief Minister in April. While the student group accepts the political appointment of an OSD, they strongly oppose her return as the Director of Tourism.

The government initially scaled back the appointment following complaints from the MZP in May. However, the state reversed this decision last Friday and reinstated her to both roles. MZP president C Lalremruata stated that the Chief Minister had given them a written assurance during a May 13 meeting that the decision would be reviewed. The student body now feels betrayed by the government's lack of transparency and claims this move highlights favouritism at the highest level of leadership.

The MZP opposes hiring retired employees because they believe it blocks promotional paths for current staff and limits job opportunities for young people. In response to the government's decision, the union plans to stage a protest at the Tourism Department office within the Mizoram Secretariat on May 25.
