Aizawl: Mizoram Health Minister Lalrinpuii has called for the urgent development of dedicated neurosurgery services within the state. She highlighted the ongoing struggle for local patients who must currently travel outside of Mizoram to receive specialized care due to a lack of local facilities.

Speaking at a ceremony at Zoram Medical College and Hospital, the minister announced that a formal proposal to establish a neurosurgery unit is already in the works. She noted that realizing this project will require additional infrastructure and specialized medical equipment.

The event marked a donation from the Indian Oil Corporation Limited, which provided critical care technology and an Advanced Life Support Ambulance valued at over Rs 62.38 lakh through its corporate social responsibility program. The contribution includes a C-Arm machine and a diathermy machine to boost the hospital's surgical and emergency capabilities.

Lalrinpuii emphasized that the current gap in medical services places an immense emotional and financial strain on families. Describing the new resources, she said, "the equipment would enhance emergency response capabilities, improve surgical care and help save lives." She encouraged further partnerships between the government and corporate sector to bridge the remaining gaps in the state healthcare system.
