Aizawl: The Mizoram Independent Schools' Association (MISA) has formally expressed its disapproval of the Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) decision to discontinue the publication of merit lists for Class 10 and 12 board examinations. This policy shift also excludes the release of distinctions, divisions, subject toppers, and letter marks, marking a significant change in how student performance is reported.

MISA president Lalnunkunga Sailo argued that these metrics are essential for fostering healthy academic competition and driving excellence among students. During a press conference, Sailo stated that the new approach undermines the motivation of high achieving students and effectively masks the differences between top tier institutions and those that are academically weaker. He warned that the change could foster complacency and negatively impact the overall standard of education in the state.

In response to concerns, the MBSE and the state school education department previously stated that the policy change aims to shift the educational focus toward quality and competency based learning while mitigating excessive pressure on students. However, MISA maintains that the reasoning provided lacks sufficient justification and insists that the traditional evaluation system is better suited to the local educational environment and the mindset of the student population.
