Aizawl: Mizoram Rajya Sabha MP Vanlalvena held talks with senior World Bank representatives in Washington DC this Tuesday to secure financial and technical aid for various development initiatives. The meeting included discussions with Executive Director Parameswar Iyer and other officials managing affairs for India, Bangladesh, and Bhutan.

The proposals presented during the visit aim to bolster Mizoram's economy and infrastructure by utilizing local natural resources. Key areas of focus include the promotion of bamboo, agro-based, and forest-based industries designed to increase value-added production and provide new rural employment opportunities.

Urban development projects for the capital city, Aizawl, were also on the agenda. These include plans for flyover bridges to reduce traffic congestion and the installation of solar-powered outdoor stairways to improve navigation across the state's steep, hilly terrain. The MP also proposed multipurpose rainwater harvesting systems to support sustainable growth.

World Bank officials responded with interest to the presentations. They described the proposed projects as viable and indicated they would examine them for potential future support.
