Aizawl: Governor Vijay Kumar Singh lauded the 1986 Mizoram Peace Accord as a premier global example of conflict resolution during the ruby jubilee celebration of Remna Ni in Aizawl. The event marked four decades since the pact ended twenty years of brutal insurgency, proving that democratic commitment works.

The agreement between the Indian government and the Mizo National Front brought an end to violence that started after the 1959 famine. Singh reminded residents that the state must protect this stability. "The Mizoram Peace Accord stands as a shining example of reconciliation, statesmanship and democratic commitment. There is progress without any hesitation. This peace process involves everyone, and this achievement belongs to the people of Mizoram," he said.

The governor noted that Mizoram has flourished since the underground groups turned toward democracy. Political stability followed the signing of the accord, eventually leading to full statehood in 1987. Singh warned that officials must address public complaints early to stop crises before they spiral into open conflict.
