Aizawl: Health and Family Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii inaugurated Mizoram’s first interventional CT scan facility on Tuesday at Zoram Medical College and Hospital. The launch occurred during the college's MBBS Graduation Day, where the minister served as the chief guest.

The new equipment is a u-CT 780 model 128-slice scanner. Project Director of the Mizoram Health Systems Strengthening Project, Dr. Lily Chhakchhuak, explained that the unit cost Rs 8.18 crore and was funded by the World Bank. The system utilizes artificial intelligence to produce higher-quality images while reducing radiation exposure, offering significant benefits for children, cardiac patients, and cancer treatment. The machine is now operational within the hospital's Department of Radiodiagnosis, joining similar units recently placed in the Champhai and Siaha districts.

During the graduation ceremony, officials celebrated the achievements of the current batch, which began their studies during the Covid-19 pandemic. Out of 98 students, 96 passed their final examinations. Minister Lalrinpuii congratulated the graduates and reminded them of their two-year service bond with the state government, encouraging them to fill critical medical shortages. She also advised the new doctors to consider specializing in fields like microbiology, biochemistry, and anesthesiology.

The event, chaired by Professor Zoramthara Zadeng, also included the presentation of academic and extracurricular awards to top-performing students. Officials reaffirmed the state's ongoing commitment to improving healthcare access through the Mizoram Universal Healthcare Scheme and the continued development of Zoram Medical College, which first opened in 2018.
